BRADFORD TENNIS CLUB MAKES DONATION OF TENNIS RACKETS TO DVBTEF
The Donald Van Blake Tennis & Education Foundation received a donation of approximately 30 tennis rackets from the Bradford Bath and Tennis Club. This donation will help the foundation to ensure each child who participates in its spring and summer training programs has a racket.
The mission of the foundation is to promote the educational, physical and social development of youth in Plainfield, NJ, through organized tennis and activities that will help them reach their fullest potential in tennis and in life. The DVBTEF provides a host of programs including USTA sanctioned junior tennis tournaments, summer camps and opportunities for young people to attend sleep-away camps and workshops to meet youth from other cultures. The programs also provide summer employment to local area teens who play tennis at the local high school or have participated in the program in the past and are returning from college for the summer. Our programs encourage children to stay physically active while maintaining grades and focus in school.
In 2017 our participants were all under the age of 18, with 50% 10 and under and 40% 11 – 14 years old. Sixty percent (60%) of our participants are African American, 30% Hispanic and 10% Asian/Pacific Islander. Our participants are representative of the low income community in which we focus which 65% of the kids are eligible for free lunch and 5% for reduced lunch in the local high school. This donation will ensure that children have the tools they need to participate in the tennis program and reduces the barriers for parents in the community.
We are very appreciative of the Bradford Bath and Tennis Club for this donation. If you or your organization would like to make a donation to the DVBTEF please visit our website at dvbtennis.com or email us at info@dvbtennis.com.
